Rodney King Commentary

I'll post the full paper here after I write a paper of my own, but for now, here's a sentence from a paper about the Rodney King beating.

"I, for example, would not remain still nor willingly accept a beating by a group of people, regardless of the authority they have over me." -Amcult 350 paper.

This is what a good cover letter looks like.

No comments on this one, but it's been so long since I've even seen a decent cover letter in the fishbowl that I had to post this. This guy knows what he's doing. Note the lack of awkward transitions or extraneous filler text.

I didn't actually "find" these but I still had to write on them.

So Awkward it Hurts

This paper hurts my face. I wish I could write the word "awk" all the way across it, but then it would be hard for you to read.

Grabbed by HC at the fishbowl.

You may say "AHFB, are you sure this isn't an English as a second language student?" I thought the same thing, but I got on facebook and he's not an ESL student [someone I wouldn't make fun of].

Here's what's really ironic: he's a member of the facebook group "If I See Another Group Name With a Grammatical Error, I Will Flip a Shit"

Found Photos, Footage

Let's cross a brand new line of creepy-ness, shall we? One day last semester, someone left an entire USB device behind [which I gave to the lost&found people]. I know you all come here for the ripping of part of papers, but today is look-through-a-window-into-someone-else's-life day

The two baby photos are a month apart so maybe they're the same person.

There's also a folder of audio files, all interviews in French. The interviewer talks to five or so different women, asking how long the interviewees have been in the course, why they wanted to take it, what they've learned, and some other stuff that I can't really understand. She seems to be asking about a language course of some sort. Most of them seem to have taken it because they just like learning. I hear the phrase "pour savoir plus" [to know more] a lot as I'm listening to these now.

And now finally, a ballet recital:

Finders wanted.

If you're interested in making grabs for Fishbowl, please go right ahead. I feel like there's gotta be a lot of content that I just never see, especially on Mondays here at the Fishbowl. I'd also love to get more stuff from other college campuses on here.

All you've gotta do is scan it at high enough resolution where I can write comments on it. Email your grabs to me at fishbowlfinder@gmail.com

Mark at GVSU scanned and sent in one page of this journal entry yesterday, making this the first non-Michigan paper on the site. If some of you out there at different campuses looked before but didn't find anything, try looking again: now that we're getting into the semester I'm starting to finally find papers around the Fishbowl. Hopefully that's the case everywhere now.

In other news, I suck at drawing the GVSU logo.

AHFB in the Daily

The Daily printed their plagiarism article today, and I show up a few paragraphs in. It's pretty cool being a news maker. I've gotta get a hold of the other papers they scanned through turnitin so I can get them up here. That psych paper in the graphic looks pretty ridiculously plagiarized.

Michigan Daily Article: "The Plagiarist in the Next Row"

All you new folks here after reading the Daily article, let me recommend the following past entries:
The Caribbean
Hygiene of Swedish and American Culture
Hold the Sprinkles
Because War Wastes Resources, Not Lives
Thoughts on Katrina
Nazi Script

Also, I'll be putting up a new entry late tonight.

Achieving Spiritual Awakening is Hard

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. Consider this seven page paper by an author who thinks traveling the world will lead to enlightenment my way of saying thanks.

I've split it into two different files. The first is pages 2-5, the second 6-8.

Requesting feedback

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to put up a post where we can talk about what kind of things you like most/least about this site. What content do you wish there was less of? What do you want to see more of?

How do you feel about entries that are
-about plagiarism
-found photos/objects
-random what-is-it pages(e.g. the albino buffalo one, the "do you want to be pig y/n" one)
-podcasts
-commentary on news (e.g. the daily, that one yahoo news article about marriage)
-anything else

Michigamua Renames Itself

Right this way to help cancer

Woo cancer! Yeah! You can do it, cancer!

I wonder if, to help cancer out, they put carcinogens right in the bagels.

Give this man a job [doing data entry]

You know how some people put "in bed" at the end of every fortune cookie like: "You will have a very happy new year...in bed"? I wonder if the people that read internship résumés put "doing data entry" at the end of every cover letter sentence.

Podcast: Caribbean

Chkra brings us this excellent reading of one of my favorite finds, The Caribbean, authored by a Michigan football player.

It is effect.

Just a quick post for now; I'll try and get the podcast up tonight. Right now I've gotta spend my time in the fishbowl on wolverine access fixing my class schedule so I can graduate.

Avoid it Like the Plagiarism

The last paper in my series on plagiarism, here's an English 125 paper by someone scared to accidentally plagiarize. The actual paper goes on for five pages, but I figured two was enough for you to get the idea. By the way "ibid" means the info being cited is from the same place as the previous citation.

Hopefully people will have to start writing papers again soon so I can find things other than schedules in the printers. I've got a podcast that someone did and plenty of other papers ready to be put online, so we won't have any shortage of material for a while at least

Plagiarism (Part 1 of 2) (updated)

Some people from the Daily contacted me about a story they're writing about plagiarism. They'd seen an earlier entry in which a commenter discovered the author had lifted something from Wikipedia. The Daily wondered if I could be of some assistance. Could I, they asked, provide them with some old papers for them to go through in search of plagiarism? They wanted to see how common it was and the Fishbowl's a good way to get a random sample.
So I got together some extra papers that I hadn't really looked through before and started running phrases through Google. Of the five that had on me, two have some degree of plagiarism. This is the first; check out the underlined text.

Underwear.

Thats right. Underwear.

I was leaving the fishbowl and there it was in the middle of a walkway alongside a bank of computers. What was it doing there? Who had lost it? Regardless, I couldn't let a found object like this go unscanned.

Using the word "critique" loosely

Unless by a critique you mean "restating of the author's commentary on font choice"
