I came here to say what Joel said, more or less. Passive voice makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork. On a cheerier note, I remember that word processing toy, too.... Didn't it give you the "grade level" of your writing based on word and sentence length? And then didn't it compare your work to the Gettysburg Address? They should totally bring that back.

I remember Word would always give something like a "Bourmouth Grade Level" so I'd always take my spelling list and go
Persuade,
Establishment,
Congress, and
Relic
are all words.
and have it compute it to see how hard it would tell me my list was.
/also killed by passive voice
